Exercise: A Natural Remedy to Assist With Controlling Diabetes

Everybody knows that exercise is good for you.  Many fail to do the daily exercises that they intend to, but most are generally aware of some the benefits of regular exercise.  But, did you know that exercise has benefits for those with blood sugar problems, or even for those who are trying to prevent the onset of diabetes?

The most apparent way that exercise helps blood sugar problems is by promoting weight loss.Losing weight, provided that you already have too much weight, will boost your metabolism and help your body process sugars more effectively. It will lower insulin resistance too, which helps your body utilize the sugars already in your bloodstream.  These, however, are indirect benefits of exercise that might not apply to all.  If weight is not a problem for you, weight loss will not help you.

However, that leads into another direct benefit of exercise, increased metabolism.  Even if you don't have a problem with weight, exercising will help build up your metabolism, which will allow your body to use the sugars and insulin in your bloodstream more effectively.  The higher your metabolism, the faster your body burns through energy, giving you more options for blood sugar control and decreasing your chances of developing diabetes.  Not to mention that you'll probably feel better all around.

Exercise directly lowers your insulin resistance as well.Since a high insulin resistance is essentially Type II diabetes, anything that can reduce this resistance will help reduce your risk of getting diabetes and those trying to fight it.  If you have a lot of sugar in your diet, as most Americans do, then you are at risk for diabetes. So go get some exercise!

The last great benefit that exercising can offer to diabetics is something that completely bipasses any insulin resistance.Active muscles don't need insulin to properly use the sugar in your bloodstream.  This means that exercise directly lowers blood sugar, making it an amazing blood sugar control method.Excercise can give diabetics an easy way to lower their blood sugar without the use of insulin shots.  For some people, 5 minutes on a treadmill can lower blood sugar levels by as much as 10 points, which makes exercise an excellent natural remedy for diabetes.

So go and exercise.  You'll feel better!
