How Come We Are Getting Fatter?

Published by Beginning Signs Of Diabetes Blogger at 8:09 am under Nutrition

It’s a worldwide epidemic! People just keep gettingwider and becoming obese! The obesity problem is reaching countries such as China, Japan and even Korea, where the population weight had never been a source of concern in the past. An increasing waistline is a problem virtually everyone shares. As far as our species, what is causing us to be so obese? The answer lies in two words: poor nutrition. We need to place a higher emphasis on nutrition when it comes to what and how much we are eating. There are many reasons why weight is becoming a major problem including the increase in fast food restaurants, the increase in portion sizes and the increase in processed, sugary foods. An answer does exist, though it can only be found by learning about proper nutrition.

Food Is Our Energy Source

People are so obsessed with food and how food tastes now, and even how much they get of it, that they seem to forget that food is simply fuel for the body. Food is what gives us the energy we all need to sustain us throughout the day. When there is a surplus of fuel, the body stores it as fat. When taking fat into consideration, our body’s are merely acting as they were designed. It is not our body’s way of getting back at us or being spiteful. Aside from preventing starvation, fat basically provides heat to our body and insulation to our bones, internal organs and even to our muscles. Excess calories get turned into fat when we eat too much, and we don’t burn off those calories with exercise or everyday activities. These are nutritional considerations that we must take into account. Because of our daily eating habits, the body fat increases very fast.

Know Thy Enemy

Obesity does not appear out of thin air, weight gain is something that we acquire slowly over time if we are not careful. They say that knowledge is power, but that is only true if you use it. Eating healthy, taking nutrition supplements and going to the gym is the best way to fight obesity. Know your enemy and you will be able to overcome them. Don’t stop gaining knowledge and use what you learn and you will be a winner at whatever you do.
